The shooting happened near Alice Chalmers Playground on the 600 block of Brunswick Avenue in the south side of San Francisco.

Officers from San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) were called to the scene shortly before 4:40 p.m. They found four men suffering from gunshot wounds. Paramedics took all four victims to a local hospital, where two later died.

City Supervisor Ahsha Safai tweeted updates about the incident.

He wrote: “There was a multiple shooting today on Brunswick near Alice Chalmers Playground - This is a horrible act of violence - it took place near the park but not in the park, 4 shooting victims, one of them was grazed one deceased. My heart goes out to the victims and their families.”

He later added: “One other victim has passed away now - 2 dead and 2 injured.

“I am 100% committed to making sure our community is safe. This is another act of senseless gun violence. If anyone has any further details as this is an ongoing investigation please contact the SFPD and call 311.”

Police said the suspect had fled the scene in a car, but authorities have not yet released descriptions of either the suspect or the vehicle. There have been no arrests so far. Anyone with information regarding the shooting was asked to contact the SFPD.

Newsweek has contacted SFPD to request more information.

The violence followed another mass shooting in California on Sunday.

Six people were killed and 12 injured in Sacramento, as bars and nightclubs were closing at around 2 a.m.

As Newsweek reported, the shooting happened near 10th Street and K Street, a bustling area packed with restaurants and bars known for its nightlife scene, just blocks from the state Capitol building.

At a news briefing, Sacramento Police Chief Kathy Lester described the shooting as “a really tragic, unfortunate situation.”

Video shared on Twitter appeared to show a brawl and people running through the streets as gunfire broke out. Sacramento police later revealed that multiple shooters were involved in the violence, but the suspects remain at large.

Three men and three women were killed, with 12 others injured, Lester said, adding: “We know that a large fight took place just prior to the shooting, and we have confirmed there were multiple shooters.”

The victims have not yet been identified. There have been no arrests.

Speaking after news of the Sacramento attack broke, President Joe Biden said the U.S. was once again mourning as a community was hurt by gun violence. He called on Congress to pass stricter gun legislation.
