Manuel Reyes, 19, traveled from his home in Hayward to Lagos de Moreno, in Jalisco, in early April to visit his sister.

But, Manuel and his friend Jesus “Jessy” Ramon Corona, 36, vanished after they went out on a motorcycle to buy some tacos in the San Miguel area at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 2.

Since they left to eat nothing has been heard from either Manuel or Jesus, according to local media outlet Cuadrante7.

Manuel’s sister Norma had messaged him on WhatsApp where he said he was eating tacos at a restaurant in Orozco y Jimenez boulevard.

She told the outlet, in a statement translated from Spanish via Google: “When at 4:00 a.m. I realized that he still had not arrived and I sent him a message and the same to Jessy and see that they do not enter, then he dialed them and the phones were turned off.

“Worried early, I looked for family and friends and nobody knew anything.”

The report continued that nothing was heard from the pair after 11:30 p.m. that same day.

Jesus’s sister, Leslie Abril, said the two had been with her at her home at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday before they went out to get some food.

She told Cuadrante7, in a comment translated from Spanish: “They were seen for the last time around 2 a.m. in the morning of May 3 at the tacos ‘El ahijado.’ In front of the relatives, they said goodbye around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Genaro de la Torre, the president of the citizens’ committee for public safety in Tijuana, said tourists should be careful and take precautionary measures when visiting Mexico.

He told Telemundo 48: “Don’t bring too much cash, try to bring the least. Do not visit some places at night, try to go to illuminated places where there is more movement.”

Appeals for information have been launched in the U.S. and Mexico, with local media offering a description of the pair.

An appeal by TV Azteca Jalisco described Manuel as being 5ft 9ins tall, white, of slim build with green eyes and thin wavy hair.

According to the appeal, Manuel was wearing gray pants, a grey sweatshirt with blue sleeves, a red cap and grey sneakers. He also has a scar on his chin.

Jesus was described as being 5ft 7ins of a light brown complexion and was wearing jeans, a pink shirt, blue Nike shoes and was wearing a gold bangle with the name “Ramon” on it on his right arm.

Newsweek has contacted the Hayward Police Department for comment.
