At the time of this writing, Activision hasn’t yet officially revealed the private beta dates for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but a recent posting by GameStop Germany seemingly reveals an August time period. It hasn’t been picked up by other retailers, so this should be taken with a grain of salt. However, it is worth noting that this time period isn’t without basis.
Both Treyarch’s Black Ops 3 and Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty: WW2 had private betas in August in the years of their respective release. It also seems that, while PS4 and Xbox One players will need beta codes, PC players will not, because the PC version will be an “open beta” for all Battle.net players. Considering it was previously revealed that Black Ops 4 will be a Battle.net exclusive for PC players, this decision would make a lot of sense.
Notably, however, the beta dates could begin at different times in August, with PlayStation 4 players confirmed to get their hands on it first. It’s worth mentioning that GameStop Germany’s reveal was taken down, but not before Charlie Intel was able to get hands on it. Check it out below:
Of course, little is known about the multiplayer at the moment, but perhaps more will be learned when the beta does launch. One thing we do know is that Black Ops 4 will be limiting the specialists in a controversial manner, but it remains to be seen how that affects the overall meta. Hopefully, though, that decision doesn’t bog down the multiplayer too much.
Also in August the Open Beta for the PC version takes place! For the PC version, no codes are sent because no code is needed for playing.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to release on October 12, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
