The news comes from the unofficial Call of Duty Twitter account Charlie Intel, which has since been confirmed by Activision. According to Activision, Season 5 is now confirmed to launch on Friday, August 13. The exact timing of launch will be 9:00 PM PT on August 12 or midnight ET  on August 13. While Activision didn’t confirm that Season 4’s battle pass has been extended, Charlie Intel’s report that its already been extended within the game can be assumed to be accurate.

As for why the delay is necessary, Activision did briefly mention what the problem is in an ambiguous way. Activision notes that the delay is due to a “testing issue” that was found earlier this week. In other words, the developers discovered an issue with Season 5 that posed enough of a problem that it couldn’t be allowed to go live. Considering Call of Duty players are only learning about it now, the devs likely hoped to have it fixed in time for the scheduled release. All things considered, that’s a very fast turnaround.

While Season 5 for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone won’t go live until Friday begins, part of the rollout will still start tonight as planned. The new schedule is that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s update will be available starting tonight, while Call of Duty: Warzone’s update has been delayed to go out alongside Season 5’s launch.

Season 5 is going to be a robust update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone. Black Ops Cold War is getting a new Double Agent Mode, new multiplayer maps, and a substantial update for Zombies. Warzone’s Season 5 update delivers new Mobile Broadcast Stations, a new Clash mode, and new perks. Both are getting three new operators, spread through the season, new weapons, and a new Season 5 Battle Pass.

Having to wait an extra day isn’t fun, especially for Call of Duty fans that have been anxiously awaiting the update. But waiting only to have a broken game is worse by far. The developers for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone are doing their best to make sure the update is as perfect as can be for players. Hopefully, players are understanding and patient in the meantime.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Call of Duty: Warzone are available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
