Black Ops Cold War is based in the 1980s so boots-on-the-ground combat returns with some slight changes that will make the middle of a gunfights more realistic. Players will be able to hear where gunfire is coming from with the new weapon sound engine that produces 3D directional sound. With more realistic and clear gunfire audio, pinpointing enemies’ and teammates’ gunfire will be more realistic.

Black Ops Cold War will also have improved movement physics based on four key features. The Sprint Take-Off feature will make sprinting more smooth with a slight boost at the beginning of the sprint and then slowing down into the normal sprint speed. The audio of footsteps has been improved by having more audible range based on faster and slower movements. Jumping is also more realistic with more natural jumping height and slows down players when landing. Lastly, sliding starts and ends in a crouched position, making it more of a natural movement.

Top streamers are playing against each other during the Black Ops Cold War multiplayer reveal, and are experimenting with different loadouts as well as getting used to the improved movement patterns and sound. Apart from gameplay, streamers are also trying out the new Create-A-Class system which features slots for primary and secondary weapons, lethal and tactical equipment, a field upgrade, and set of perks.

The class-changing Wildcards are returning with four benefits that can be added to loadouts. In Black Ops Cold War, the Wildcard benefits include having eight primary weapon attachments, carrying up to six perks, choosing cross-category perks, or doubling equipment on spawn. Wildcards will enable players to specialize in their strengths or have Wildcard loadouts for specific situations.

Some fans may be divided on the new Black Ops Cold War scorestreaks. Cold War will not feature killstreaks that reset upon death, but will instead have scorestreaks that can be earned throughout the match. Scorestreaks will have bonuses for multiple kills before death and will have a cooldown system for each scorestreak. All of the signature combat improvements to gameplay and loadouts will give a fresh, yet still familiar feel to Black Ops Cold War.
