For those looking to see the easter egg themselves, they will need to load up the Sanatorium Night map. Only found in the Zombies Outbreak game mode, the location puts an entertaining twist on the visually pleasant version of Sanatorium seen in multiplayer. Once players have teleported to the area, they will want to head to the massive Sanatorium building itself. The easter egg can then be seen on the second floor of the building near a piece of Zombies intel.

Seen on a clipboard, the top text describes a medical test that is being carried out on the patients of the Sanatorium. 20 different individuals have been chosen for a special program, with the “conditioning regimen” following the “Yamantau Protocls.” For those familiar with the campaign, this should immediately be a red flag, as this was the location where original Black Ops protagonist Alex Mason was brainwashed. With “audio and video” methods supposedly used, the people on the list are likely being tortured for 6 weeks straight.

The most chilling detail about the document is the bottom half, however, as it details that children and young adults are more easily susceptible to the brainwashing. People as young as 14 are being turned by the Russian government, while older civilians are resisting the treatment and being sent to work camps. In turn, the scientists are recommending that that tests be done on the “younger population in Verdansk.” An interesting touch that expands the Black Ops story further, the final detail worth pointing out is that the program is called “Project Golova," implying that the map may have a role to play.

With Call of Duty: Warzone all-but-confirmed to be getting a 1980s version of Verdansk in a few weeks’ time, this easter egg could be the first teaser of a new story tied to the battle royale game. Not only does the timeline line up with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s ongoing narrative, but this teaser was just added recently — meaning that it could be intended to hype up the Verdansk rework. If this is a teaser for a new narrative inside Call of Duty: Warzone, it seems as if players will be tracking down Russian sleeper agents throughout the country.

While this could be some interesting world-building, it could also be the start of something bigger. For now, its seems that fans will need to wait for the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 3 before they get their answers.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
