The Trophy System has been part of the Call of Duty franchise since the launch of Modern Warfare 3. The item is designed to block incoming explosives, but it has other uses depending on the game mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s version seems to be bugged as it interferes with players’ ability to use the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow.

When players got their hands on the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War crossbow, they immediately noticed a flaw in its design. When the bolts travel past a Trophy System, the grenade prevention net stops the bolts creating a frustrating situation for players in defensive positions. This was pointed out on Reddit by justivedeliverer1 who is confused why this would even exist. By using a Trophy System, a player can completely counter the crossbow, making them immune to any projectiles fired from it. Being immune to crossbow bolts may seem like a powerful and useful feature, but it does also seem a bit unbalanced.

This frustrates some fans, as the crossbow only has a few bolts in it. The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War weapon takes skill to use, and to have it thwarted by campers is an unfortunate side effect of its design. Fans are calling for an immediate fix as the drawbacks outweigh any positives to using this unique weapon.

Fans are confused on why the developers would release a weapon that can easily be rendered useless. When the Trophy System was examined, its description lists enemy equipment and launcher missiles items that it stops. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War crossbow fans note that a crossbow bolt does not fall under any of these categories.

This has reignited an older frustration within the game’s community, as Tomahawks and Molotovs were intercepted by the Trophy System. Treyarch has not responded to this Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War fan complaint, but many are pressuring the developers to address the situation sooner rather than later.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
