Following the news that the controversial Skill Based Matchmaking will be making its return into Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer, some good news has also been leaked which may balance things out. Call of Duty insider ModernWarzone reports that the popular cross play feature is coming back and will largely function that same as it does now in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

For Call of Duty, cross play is a relatively new feature having only been introduced in Modern Warfare last year. Considering how popular it remains with fans, especially on console, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see it return for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The feature also came with cross progression, which allowed players to take their current levels and unlocks to different platforms. While that hasn’t been mentioned, its highly likely that it will return as well.

While cross play is generally popular with players, there have been times when it hasn’t worked out so well. Call of Duty: Warzone continues to suffer from exploits and cheaters on PC, which also allows the issue to spread into matches with console players as well. While cross play promotes friends being able to play with each other regardless of system, console players began switching off the feature from the game’s options menu in order stop encountering potential cheaters. Unfortunately, this also meant that PS4 and Xbox players could no longer join matches together either.

Outside of the first teaser trailer, Activision hasn’t said much about the upcoming shooter. Most of the information fans have comes from leaks or rumors, so much of it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Typical Call of Duty reveals happen at specific times, usually the announcement in the Spring with a release set for October. 2020 has been anything but normal, so Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is charting its own course due to the COVID-19 pandemic and also rumored development issues with the game, forcing it to change studios and be rebooted with Treyarch. Either way, fans will finally be getting answers next week.

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War worldwide reveal premieres August 26.
