The Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Alpha isn’t going to be a small teaser, either. It’s going to be substantial. Included in the Black Ops Cold War Alpha will be multiple different game modes, each with multiple available maps, as well as previews of the first-person shooter’s Create-a-Class and Scorestreak features. There should be more than enough multiplayer content available for Call of Duty fans to make a decision regarding whether to pick up Black Ops Cold War later this year.

PS4 players will be able to pre-load Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Alpha starting on September 17 at 8:00 am PDT, so that they have plenty of time to download before the Alpha goes live. The Alpha itself won’t start until September 18 at 10:00 am PDT and will last just two full days. It’ll promptly end on September 20 at 10:00 am PDT. Two days aren’t much, so users should take advantage of the preload if they’re able.

In addition to the exclusive alpha, Sony’s beta early access for Black Ops Cold War remains planned, too. The PS4 Early Access beta for pre-orderers begins on October 8 and an open beta for PS4 users, regardless of preorder status, starts October 10. So even if PS4 users miss out on this weekend’s alpha the beta will follow in less than a month.

For PC and Xbox gamers hoping to try out Black Ops Cold War before it launches, there will be later betas for all platforms. Pre-orderers on all platforms will get to play between October 15-16, followed by an open beta on all platforms between October 17-19. That should be more than enough time for all interested parties to get a solid impression of Black Ops Cold War’s gameplay.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War releases November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S.
