This is hardly the first time that fans have made requests for an old feature. Just over a week ago, a popular post on Reddit saw gamers reminiscing over Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s scorestreaks. With that game letting players fully customize streaks, many are calling for the mechanic to return in a future Call of Duty game. While it remains to be seen if that will happen, gamers have already moved on to asking for another feature. This time around, it is tied to map voting.

Specifically, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War players are calling for the classified option to return to the map selection screen. In past Black Ops games, players could choose this option to get a random map from the game’s lineup. If the playlist was moshpit-related, the game mode would also be randomized. As pointed out by Redditor Mathiasxd148-, this “small suggestion” could improve the map voting experience significantly.

Currently, when players see two maps they dislike, they are forced to choose the lesser of two evils. As shown in the Redditor’s mockup for what the improved map voting section would look like, however, the random option would be placed to the right of the two map choices. In this example, Mathiasxd148- uses Miami and Satellite, two unpopular Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War maps, to prove their point. If the random option existed, players would have a much easier time avoiding certain maps.

The “classified” option also suits the Black Ops franchise due to the undercover missions that the Operators go on. The idea that gamers could be sent to play on a map they were not expecting is fitting, as is the information on the location being redacted. While this is a small touch, the “classified” option is one that builds off the franchise’s espionage themes and fits perfectly within the Black Ops universe. As pointed out by Mathiasxd148-, it is truly strange not to see the option due to its appearance in every Black Ops game prior to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War.

It will be interesting to see if Treyarch acknowledges the fan’s request. While the game is a bit far into its life cycle to add new features, the Die Hardpoint mode was made permanent after players pushed for it to stick around — showing that Treyarch is willing to listen to its fans if players make their voices heard.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
