Now, a new tweet from the official Treyarch Twitter account is hinting at the return of one of the most popular characters in the Aether story. The tweet does not announce anything outright, but it does feature a blueprint for a device called a Beacon Communications Receiver accompanied by a few post-it notes that are signed merely by the letter “R.” The evidence seems to be pointing towards the return of Edward Richtofen in a future update for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies mode that seems to be coming on May 20.

The tweet is short on details about what Rictofen’s inclusion in the mode will look like, but it could take a few different forms. With the tweet referencing a hunt beginning, it could be that there will be a new Hunt for Richtofen event similar to Call of Duty: Warzone’s recent Hunt for Adler event. It could also indicate a Richtofen operator being added to the game or a new quest being worked into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies Outbreak mode that will continue Richtofen’s story.

Regardless of how Rictofen is added to the game, the update seems pretty exciting for fans of the Aether storyline. So far, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies has featured an entirely new cast of characters, so it will be nice to see a familiar face pop up again. With how much the Zombies experience has changed in the lifespan of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War it will also be interesting to see what cool new things Call of Duty 2021 does with the Zombies mode when it launches later this year.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
