Although the clip was brief, it did give fans an early taste of what Zombies will look like upon Cold War’s release. Fans have been quick to note similarities between the clip’s gritty aesthetic and zombie style with Call of Duty: WW2’s take on the franchise.

Fans did notice that the staircase shown in the clip was very reminiscent of World at War’s Nacht der Untoten map. Although not an official confirmation, many fans hope that a return to classic zombies encounters may be in store for the series. Shortly after the reveal, the popular Call of Duty leaker Tom Henderson provided fans with some more specific details as to the future of zombies.

His information mainly had to do with the fan-favorite map of Nacht der Untoten, as he gives a decent reason that the iconic map would return in Cold War. Although he claims the game mode will include a new crew, he does say that there will be both Nazi and Russian zombies throughout the facility. The game mode will reportedly hold WW2 era weapons still on the site, and players will be restricted to only a torch for light until they can power on the facility.

This information gives a good idea of how the Zombies franchise is not simply being remade, it’s being reborn. By combining the Cold War theme of the title they can move the story forward and introduce the Russian influence into the infamous Nacht Der Untoten.

Some fans may feel a sense of loss due to the new cast of characters. Judging by the reception that Black Ops 4’s cast received, there may be a slight divide in the community. With so many unknowns, the Zombies game mode could take several steps towards different evolutions.

The one piece of news that many fans are excited about is that Nacht Der Untoten confirms that the game will be taking advantage of the Aether timeline. With more information still to come for Black Ops Cold War’s Zombie mode, fans are left in a bubble of high anticipation.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is set to release on November 13th for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
