Presented during the Sony E3 2016 press conference, the latest Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare gameplay trailer is split between dogfighting in the Jackal and soldier vs. soldier fire fights. On the ship-blasting side of things, viewers can see the protagonist chasing down an enemy ‘Skelter’ ship, as an ally requests back-up. It’s loud and bombastic and fans have already suggested that the game would be a good fit for PlayStation VR – which would work especially with the PlayStation VR release date happening not long before Infinite Warfare’s.

After zipping about in his space jet, the player character disembarks to take down enemies in zero-gravity. Shooting at enemies while being positioned at a 90-degree angle certainly looks difficult, but with the player character also being equipped with a sort of grappling hook (which can pull enemies towards him or pull him towards surfaces) it could provide players with a new and exciting challenge.

Not all of the soldier-blasting took place in zero-g, either, as once the gravity is restored, the trailer shows the player character taking aim in a more traditional fashion. Moreover, while the trailer does feature a pretty mean-looking robot, many fans will be glad to know that Infinity Ward appears to be keeping its promise that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will not feature any alien enemies.

What is currently unclear is whether this has managed to change people’s minds about game’s space action. The space setting has proved massively divisive with longstanding Call of Duty, meaning that the game already had an uphill battle going into E3. Moreover, Infinite Warfare’s rivals also managed to impress at the annual industry event, with gamers having a positive reaction to the Battlefield 1 gameplay trailer and the Titanfall 2 gameplay debut and so the game may need to do a bit more convincing.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 4, 2016.
