However, while some have welcomed the upcoming game’s futuristic setting, others are not so happy and have unleashed mass waves of hate against the Infinite Warfare trailer. Various versions of the trailer – including the main (English language) version and the regional, non-English versions – have tons of dislikes and at the time of this writing, the main trailer now has 243,150 dislikes in comparison to 166,407 likes. Many of the comments on these trailers also encourage other viewers to down-vote the trailers, seemingly in an effort to get Infinity Ward and Activision to notice.
The concern that some viewers have, it seems, is that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be a serious departure from previous games in the franchise and that it doesn’t represent the Call of Duty series that they know and love. While this is perhaps understandable as the game quite literally takes players to new heights, Infinity Ward has said that it wants the game to be a “grounded experience” despite the sci-fi setting – which is why Infinite Warfare will not include any alien enemies.
Another sore spot for Call of Duty fans appears to be Infinity Ward and Activision’s handling of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Modern Warfare is a much-loved title and many have argued that by only making Modern Warfare Remastered available via special editions of Infinite Warfare, Activision is ‘botching’ the remastered game’s release. Fans also aren’t happy that Modern Warfare Remastered will only include 10 multiplayer maps.
While it’s far too late for Infinity Ward to change course when it comes to Infinite Warfare’s setting, it wouldn’t be surprising if Activision changed its tune with Modern Warfare Remastered’s availability. Although the studio will have far slimmer profit margins as a result of separating the remaster from those pricey special editions, it could make that money back by selling the title standalone to those who are eager to play one of the most highly-rated shooters of all time.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is scheduled for launch on November 4, 2016 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
