With the beta now live, Activision has shared information about what Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 playlists and maps will be available to play on. Seven different playlists are included in this weekend’s beta, including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Prisoner Rescue, Knock Out, Search & Destroy, Invasion, and 3rd Person Moshpit. As for maps, players will be able to experience Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Farm 18, Mercado las Almas, Breenbergh Hotel, Valderas Museum, and both Serrif Bay and Sa’id for Invasion. The Valderas Museum map, as well as Invasion and its two maps, are new for this weekend’s beta.

As for the details of the beta itself, access to this weekend is divided between two starting dates. Those who now have access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s Multiplayer beta have all pre-ordered the game, whether it’s on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. This stage of the beta will be available through Friday. Starting Saturday, September 24, the beta will fully open to players across all platforms regardless of pre-order status. The beta will then end Monday.
It’s possible that more playlists and maps will open through the weekend. Activision rolled out content over the full first weekend of the beta, too. It’s also more than possible that this is the full range of content that will be unlocked for the open beta. This weekend’s beta is robust, but it’s not the entirety of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer experience. There’s more to show yet.
Akin to past Call of Duty betas, these two weekends of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer access largely serve as a promotional effort for the upcoming shooter. It’s used to test the game and its server infrastructure too, of course, but the hype surrounding the beta and particularly PlayStation’s exclusivity deal for the first weekend drive a lot of pre-orders. That doesn’t mean players shouldn’t enjoy their time with the game, of course.
It’s unclear what the response to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s beta is at this point in time. It’s difficult to tell whether positive responses are caught up in the hype of having something new to play. Infinity Ward does have a healthy reputation among the Call of Duty audience, though. This could prove to be a resurgent year for the Call of Duty franchise.
