Originally the remaster launched exclusively on Sony’s PlayStation 4 in March, but that exclusivity ended today according to a press release. The “iconic, blockbuster video game story” is able to be played in 4K resolution and HDR on console according to the press release, and players can reach an “uncapped frame rate” and find ultra-wide monitor support by running the game on PC with Blizzard Entertainment’s Battle.net platform.

An Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle advertised as a tie-in bonus with Modern Warfare and Warzone for players who purchased Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered on PS4 is also available on these new platforms. The official Activision Games Blog post for the game has received an updated headline to reflect further releases, but the contents are still the same as when it premiered on March 31, 2020.

The originally exclusive release of this remastered game was likely one of the reasons behind the Call of Duty franchise dominating PS4 download charts this March. Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was listed as the fifth most-downloaded game of the month, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare being the most downloaded game while Call of Duty: Warzone took the top slot in the free-to-play games category.

Though Activision and Infinity Ward have seen success in consistently putting out updated content in their current Call of Duty titles to bolster a thriving competitive scene, leaks have suggested that the popular multiplayer facet of Modern Warfare 2 will not be released alongside Campaign Remastered. Luckily Modern Warfare and Warzone offer different flavors of combat to keep fans entertained, but those who fondly remember playing through Rust in its original context may be disappointed.

That said, the single-player campaign in Modern Warfare 2 is part of what made it so popular back in the day even if certain aspects don’t hold up as well as others. The ability to now re-experience that story on multiple platforms is undoubtedly a plus for Call of Duty fans.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
