Dubbed the “Ultimate Team” trailer, the brief clip features Aoki sitting in a kind of troop transport vehicle alongside iconic Call of Duty characters like John Price and Simon “Ghost” Riley. Aoki jokes about his compatriots listening to his music ahead of the mission before showing off a cake he prepared for the occasion, prompting Price to turn to Ghost and say, “okay, we’ll leave him in the truck.” The original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 wasn’t known for its comedic overtones, and this trailer seemingly sets the stage for something slightly less stone-faced.

The final seconds of the trailer confirmed that a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 reveal trailer will debut in two days. Call of Duty titles typically receive official reveal trailers in May or June of their respective launch years. One major exception to that rule, however, was Call of Duty: Vanguard, which saw a mid-August reveal. That said, Activision purports to have lost about fifty million players between Call of Duty: Vanguard and Call of Duty: Warzone over the past year, and it may be in the publisher’s best interest to shift focus to the upcoming Call of Duty title as soon as possible.

It’s hard to know exactly what will be featured in the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 trailer, though it will likely focus on the game’s campaign mode. Set to be a continuation of sorts to the 2019 subseries soft reboot, it appears from the teaser trailer that fan-favorite Call of Duty characters like Ghost, Soap, and more will play important roles in what is to come. There may also be some references to the hotly-anticipated Call of Duty: Warzone sequel, though it probably won’t be the focal point of the trailer.

There’s also a small chance that Activision and Infinity Ward will provide some hints about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s rumored DMZ mode, though this isn’t especially likely. Suspected to be a new take on the hardcore formula established by Escape from Tarkov, this mode is still shrouded in mystery, and curious gamers may have to wait for some time before official details surface.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 28, 2022.
