Despite the minor complaints, there’s a large majority of players enjoying the plethora of different game modes, and multiplayer is filled to the brim with both new and old players. Those who’ve already tried Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s multiplayer mode might have noticed that players are able to use custom names in the game instead of their platform-specific usernames.

Most games limit players to use their platform-specific usernames like Gamertags on Xbox and PSN IDs on PlayStation; however, Modern Warfare allows players to use their Activision account name in the game’s multiplayer mode.

How To Change Your Name In Multiplayer Mode

It’s extremely simple to set a custom name in Modern Warfare as all it requires is changing the Activision ID and a setting in the game. First of all, players need to head over to the Activision Community site and log in with their profile. Those who don’t have an Activision account will have to create a new one. When logged in, just go to the Account Profile section and then Basic Info. In the Basic Info section, scroll down to see Activision ID and change it to any preferred name. The Activision ID name will also have a random string of numbers at the end; this is a unique string to identify each user and can not be changed.

Once the name has been changed, fire up Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on any platform and head over to the Options menu. Under the Account tab, disable the “Display Unique ID Numbers” feature to only show the custom name in-game, but this part is option. Not doing this will only result in the aforementioned string numbers displaying in-game. For those who are enjoying the game on PS4, they can also snag a free Call of Duty theme on their consoles to customize the experience even further.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
